Original filings

Takedown Bureau submits original copyright removal requests only from copyright@takedownbureau.com, on the domain takedownbureau.com, and sends any retraction of those requests through the same filing identity. We do not submit filings from consumer or free email providers, or from unrelated domains. Sender details can be forged, so a matching address is not proof on its own. If a message presented as a Takedown Bureau filing looks inconsistent, write to compliance@takedownbureau.com — typing the address published here rather than replying to the message — before acting on it.

Authority to act

  • Takedown Bureau acts only as an authorized representative of a copyright owner — never as the owner.
  • Written authorization is in place before any filing is submitted.
  • The scope of that authorization covers the relevant works and the action taken.
  • Supporting authorization may be supplied to the relevant platform when appropriate or requested.

Authority chain

  1. Copyright owner The owner of the exclusive right at issue.
  2. Written authorization In place before any filing. Names the works, the rights and the permitted actions.
  3. Takedown Bureau LLC, authorized representative Acts only as an authorized representative. A person at Takedown Bureau checks the authorization against the specific work, and reviews the evidence and copyright-exception context, before anything is filed.
  4. Named signer Ralph S. Becnel – Director, Copyright Enforcement & Rights Operations. Signs with a full legal name, as YouTube requires. Published above, and checkable before you act on a filing.
  5. Copyright removal request Sent from copyright@takedownbureau.com on takedownbureau.com, and from no other address.

Supporting authorization is maintained privately and may be supplied directly to the relevant platform when appropriate or requested. It is not published here, and no client record appears anywhere on this site.

The Bureau Standard

  1. Identity — every filing is submitted from takedownbureau.com and signed by a named individual.

  2. Authorization — no request is submitted until written authorization is on file and covers the relevant works.

  3. Evidence — we do not file until the claimed original work is identifiable and the evidence supports the claim.

  4. Exception review — potential copyright exceptions, including fair use, are considered before submission; materially uncertain matters are not filed.

  5. Human review — a person on our team reviews every filing before it is submitted.

  6. Accuracy — confirmed errors are corrected or retracted promptly and recorded in the case file.

  7. Retraction — retractions are issued through the same canonical filing identity and follow the platform's process.

  8. Conflicts — we avoid filing where duplicate representation would create conflicting claims on the same matter.

  9. Responsible filing — we do not knowingly file on fabricated ownership, fake authorization or false evidence, or to suppress lawful criticism or pursue an unrelated commercial dispute.

Cases we may decline

  • Uncertain ownership
  • Missing or unclear written authorization
  • Uses that may fall within a copyright exception, such as fair use
  • Business or contract disputes presented as copyright
  • Harassment, impersonation or trademark concerns presented as copyright
  • Incomplete evidence
  • Requests aimed at criticism rather than copying

We are not the arbiter of fair use; materially uncertain matters are declined or referred back to the owner.

Legal statements required by YouTube

“I have a good faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.”

“The information in this notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, I am the owner, or an agent authorized to act on behalf of the owner, of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.”

Part 2 — internal controls, completed before Part 1 is sent

These are our pre-filing checks. They are not additional elements any platform requires in a notice, and they are not statutory requirements.

  • Written authorization checked, and its scope compared with the work being reported.
  • Ownership evidence reviewed by a person at Takedown Bureau.
  • Reported location validated as the specific material, in the format the platform uses for that content type.
  • Duplicate check — has this material already been reported under another matter?
  • Conflict check — do we act for another party with an interest in this work?
  • Licence and permission check, where the context suggests one may exist.
  • Copyright-exception and context review.
  • A named reviewer decides whether to file, and may decide not to.

Retractions & corrections

  • When we confirm an error in a request we submitted, we correct it — retracting the request where that is appropriate.
  • YouTube asks that a retraction sent by email come from the original claimant or their authorized representative, from the same email address or company domain as the original request, and carry the signer’s full legal name.
  • Our own practice is narrower: every retraction we send comes from copyright@takedownbureau.com, the address our original filings come from.
  • We retract only requests we submitted and are authorized to handle.
  • Every correction and retraction is recorded in the case history. Where a retraction is appropriate and we are authorized to act on the matter, we do not charge the uploader for it.

Received a notice from us?

If you believe a Takedown Bureau request identifies the wrong material, was submitted in error, or requires clarification, contact compliance@takedownbureau.com and include the relevant Bureau case reference or URL.

We can review our own records, correct factual errors, and retract a request we submitted where that is appropriate. Takedown Bureau does not adjudicate ownership disputes or determine the legal merits of a counter-notification — and YouTube states that it does not mediate copyright ownership disputes either.

This contact route does not replace the platform's counter-notification process.

Versions

Changes to our published filing identity are recorded here with their date, so an earlier filing can be checked against the record in force when it was sent. Legal documents show their own last-updated date.

  1. September 2, 2026 The filing signatory’s published role changed from “Manager” to “Director, Copyright Enforcement & Rights Operations”. The named signatory did not change. A filing submitted before this date carries the previous role, and that difference alone does not make it inauthentic.
